(Intro) New to hiking (name changed from "BigSung" to "자전거")
Hi everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself as I just registered. I was introduced to this site a while back by "Bond", I believe that's the nickname that he goes by.
I am a 1.5 generation Korean. I am a father of 3 young girls, oldest is in middle school and younger 2 are still in elementary school, living in San Jose. Since the girls are still young, my week nights and weekends are typically spent shuffling them around between activities. When I do find the time, I usually spend it biking, typically mountain biking, although during the winter time I tend to grab my road bike.
Beginning of the year, I picked up a pedometer, and I started to walk for my daily exercise. I realized that riding once every other week or so wasn't cutting it. Recently, my interest turned towards hiking as I rather be doing things in nature; however, I have not had the opportunity to go on real hikes yet. I have done short 3-4 milers here and there. You could say I am a total newbie when it comes to hiking.
I look forward to joining you on Saturday at Lake Chabot.
PS. I can read and speak in Korean, but I have rough time typing in Hangul. Hope you won't mind that I am posting in English.

How old is your 3rd daughter? I biked at Chabot one time a while back. I remember West Shore & East Shore were basically flat; however, Live Oak trail was a bit of steep climb. My friend who took us there got us lost so we ended up coming down Columbine trail which is not open to bike, so I am not sure how Brandon and Golden Road trail are though. -

앗, 제 딸은 일곱살인데 아직 경사가 많은 구간은 안됩니다.그러면 계획을 수정. 오전중 West & East & Columbine & Bass Cove를 오락가락 하다가 가능하면점심때 쯤 하이킹으로 Marciel Gate로 가서 점심을 같이하고 같이 내려오는것도 한 방법이 되겠네요.이도 저도 아니면 저희끼리 점심먹고 뒷풀이때나 보든지, 그도 안되면 담을 기약하든지. 지금 애가 콜롬 & 비아랑 자전거 간다고많이 Hyper되어 있는 상태인데...

이 분 자전거는 통달한 분입니다. 처음에 산악자전거 사고 저도 도움 많이 받았습니다. 질문 있으신 분들은 이 분에게 물어 보세요.BigSung 은 Sung 이 이름이고 Big 사이즈라 그런 건 알겠는데 우린 닉네임에 '님' 자를 다 붙여 부르는데 아직 여기서 '성님' 소리 들을 나이는 아닌 것 같아요. 한글로 하면 큰성님... 뭐 이렇게 될 것 같은데... 다소 무리가 엿보이는 대목입니다. ㅎㅎ 우리 다 같이 그럴 듯한 새 닉네임을 찾아 주어야 할 것 같아요. ^^ 보신 후 평가를...

Sure, I can do that sometime in May. I have introduced quite few friends and co-workers to mountain biking. I find that Arastradero in Palo Alto is one of the best place in Bay Area for beginners. The course is roughly 5-6 miles. It has a good combination of fireroads and singletrack, and it offers good climbing and downhills so that you can develop the skills that you will need for more technical rides later on.
